Dr Dimitri Tsakas

BSW (Hons), BTh, MIntRel, PhD (International Relations), AMHSW, MAASW

Dimitri is a counsellor, social worker, trainer and author. He began in crisis work and a hospital mental health unit, counselled with the Family Court of Australia, and spent many years in community leadership before moving into private practice and training.

His doctorate is in international relations, and the pairing is deliberate. Social work looks at how a person responds within the systems around them. International relations looks at systems and competing interests, which is familiar ground for anyone living a life. Dimitri’s framework for Counselling, and for Training, is to consider a “whole” picture for the presenting issues of his clients.

Dimitri holds a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and is a certified Therapeutic Crisis Intervention trainer through Cornell University.

He works in English and Greek.

For community service, Dimitri is a recipient of the St George Medal in 2025 and a Queensland Flood Hero Award in 2011.

Michelle Tsakas

BSW, BA (Hons), GradDipLibSc, AMHSW, MAASW

Michelle has over 30 years of clinical experience. Her private practice, Conscious Mind, specialises in mental health and relationship counselling. Her academic background includes feminist thought and social work, and a lifelong focus on the emotional and relational side of wellbeing.

She works with individuals and couples going through difficult periods and changes in their lives. People come to her when stress has built up, when their mental health is suffering, or when a relationship has become distant and they want it to be closer and more honest.

Her counselling is evidence-based and grounded in respect, emotional clarity and a firm belief that people and relationships can change. Sessions give clients a safe place to make sense of what is happening and work out what matters most to them. Michelle also co-facilitates the Blakrok Insight workshops, bringing the emotional and relational side of working life into the room.

She is the author of The Conscious Mind Project: Cultivating Self Wisdom for Authentic Living (Conscious Mind Press), a practical, reflective guide to living with clarity, compassion and purpose. It offers tools for understanding your body, mind and personality, and for building a life beyond the patterns of the past.
